Tourism place and Temple in Nabarangpur district

Nabarangpur  is the district headquarter located on NH 201, Bhandargharani the presiding Deity of Nabarangpur. Large number of dovotees pay their homage on Tuesday, Saturday, Sankranti days & specially on Dussehra festival.

Nabarangpur district is d in 2nd October 1992 having ten Blocks and four Tahasils, land of fertile soil. The district is covered by forest with valuable sal trees, paddy and maize is major cultivation. Historical movements and the land of freedom fighter, colourful tribal flora fauna are the other added attraction to attract large number of tourist. Out of 320 identified tourist spot in Orissa, five nos are in Nabarangpur district.

PAPADAHANDI 12 Kms away from Nabarangpur is famous for Shaiva shrine and historic antiquity Sahid Stamba and large number of devotee visited on the day of Sivaratri, Kartika Punima & Srabana Purnima.

KELIA 42 Kms away from Nabarangpur is famous for SHAIVA shrine. During Sivaratri Kartika Punima & Srabana Purnima a large number of tourist gather to pay their homage.

UMERKOTE 70 Kms away from Nabarangpur is famous for the temple of Goddesses Pendrani. Goddesses Pendrani is the presiding deity of Umerkote locality and believed one among the seven sister Goddess of undivided Koraput district.

PODAGAD 52 Kms away from Nabarangpur & 14Kms from Dhodra. The famous historical place Brahmin inscriptions are found. It was the seat on Nala dynasty a place of natural scenic beauty. For development & identification of tourist spot in the district, a tourism Development Committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Collector & District Magistrate, Nabarangpur & similar committee to be formed in the tourist potential area for promotion of Tourism in the locality to preserve the spot & employment opportunity among the local inhabitants.

Sustainable Tourism Development in the District

As Nabarangpur has got rich potential in tribal culture, historical site, wooden handicraft, Lacquer work, colourful festival, Nabarangpur & Dhadra Mondei. The Dabugaon block for Dokra & Teracota work and Chandahandi block for wooden work may be developed by sending proposal to the Director of Tourism & Addl. Secretary to Govt. under RURAL TOURISM SCHEME.

Podagada fort is situated at a distance of 52 km from Nabarangpur town. This fort is ruined and the remaining of the fort is an interest for the history lovers. Brahmi scripts of Nala Dynasty ( 4th century) are found here. The archeology of the place also attractive. The deep forests surround the fort. Military Base and soldier camps are also another interest for tourists.

Gosein Dorah Water Fall-  This beautiful natural fall is situated at a distance of about 80 km from Nabarangpur town. The hills and forests of this place have a scenic view and is a sui place for trekking. 

Bhaskel Reservoir - This is built over river Bhaskel. This is a beautiful picnic spot with a natural surrounding.

Sahid Minar - The Sahid Minar is situated at Papadahandi, at a distance of 12 km from Nabarangpur. Papadahandi is a beautiful place surrounded with forests and the river Toori also flows here. There is also a Shahid Smruti Stambha&39 located at this place. There is also a &39Deer Park&39 at this place which attracts tourists.
