BHUBANESWAR: Criticising the State Government in the Assembly for trying to politicise the issue of location of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in view of the polls for the Sambalpur Municipal Corporation, Opposition members on Monday demanded establishment of the premier educational institution in Western Odisha.

Raising the issue during zero hour, Naba Kishore Das (Congress) alleged that recommending Sambalpur as the location of IIM by the State Government was only a tactic to please the people of Western Odisha ahead of the municipal polls. Regional imbalance has been aggravated during the last 15 years because of  State Government’s faulty policies, he said and demanded that the IIM should be set up in Western Odisha.

He was supported in his demand by party colleague Prafulla Majhi. The last minute recommendation for locating IIM at Sambalpur will not benefit the people of Western Odisha as the Centre has already decided to set up the institution at Bhubaneswar, he said.
