CUTTACK: Paneer, chhena, khoya and other milk products will cost more from January 26 with the producers and traders deciding to follow the recent hike in milk prices.

The Cuttack Milk Products Traders’ Association on Monday announced that paneer or cottage cheese will go up by Rs 15 from Rs 165 to Rs 180 while chhena will cost Rs 145, up by Rs 10 from Rs 135. Khoya will also go up by Rs 20 from Rs 170 to Rs 190.

The decision to hike wholesale milk product prices was taken in view of Rs 2 hike in milk prices by State-run Omfed as well as private producers, secretary Pradip Behera said.

The increase will impact consumers across several districts as the milk products are supplied to Dhenkanal, Angul, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Keonjhar besides undivided Cuttack district comprising Jajpur, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur. Cuttack is the major milk products producer and supplier in the State with 70-80 tonne of paneer, 60 tonne of chhena and around 20-25 tonne of khoya sent out to different places everyday.

Omfed had on December 21 last year raised the price of toned milk price from Rs 32 to Rs 34 per litre and from Rs 30 to Rs 32 for double toned milk. The price escalation was attributed to increased payment for farmers, the State milk federation had stated.
